Why We Don’t Use Influencers to Review Our Wheels

In the era of social media, it’s common to see "famous" YouTubers and influencers unboxing gear and offering glowing endorsements. You might notice that our wheels are missing from those feeds. That isn’t an accident—it’s a choice.

We’ve made a conscious decision not to engage in paid "reviews" or send free gear to influencers. Here is why:

1. Expertise Can’t Be Replicated

A wheelset isn’t just a product; it’s a piece of engineering. To truly review a wheel, you need to understand the tension of the spokes, the geometry of the hub, and the nuances of the build process. Most influencers are entertainers or content creators, not wheel builders.

If you don’t understand the "how" behind the assembly, you cannot accurately judge the "why" behind the performance. We believe the only people qualified to judge our work are the people who ride them every day and the craftsmen who know what makes a wheel stay true under pressure.

2. We Value Honesty Over "Agendas"

Let’s be honest: when someone receives a $2,000 wheelset for free or is paid to feature a product, there is an unspoken agenda. It is very difficult to be critical of something that was given to you as a gift.

We don't want "polite" reviews; we want honest ones. We don't pay for praise because we believe that trust shouldn't have a price tag.

Andy from Wheel Angel is highly professional, passionate, and incredibly patient. He built a beautiful handmade wheelset for me as part of my preparation for the Alpi4000 challenge. Along the way, I encountered a persistent noise issue. Although we eventually discovered that the problem was not caused by the wheelset, Andy never stopped trying to help. He spent a great deal of time troubleshooting and working through several rounds of checks to identify the root cause. A humble business run by a passionate craftsman (Andy) who personally builds every wheel he sells. I brought my wheels back after a broken spoke on the rear wheel, and he generously offered to inspect the full set.
